West Texas A&M coach Josh Lynn decided to take advantage of a new NCAA Division II rule allowing schools up to three scrimmages against other programs outside the playing season. The Buffs welcomed Super Region Four foe Colorado State-Pueblo to Canyon for a pair of scrimmages.

“We handled it like NFL teams when they hold joint practices against an opponent during training camp,” Lynn said. “We divided into two fields and got a ton of reps before heading to the stadium for a live scrimmage. Our offense and defense got around 125 live reps against a good CSU-Pueblo team. They exposed some holes we need to fill heading into this season.”

Lynn said the staff's focus this summer is on adding size along both sides of the line of scrimmage and length in the defensive backfield, particularly at cornerback.
