Riley Odoms, a phenomenal multi-sport athlete, was labeled by West Oso coach Mack Dickey “the best linebacker and offensive end I’ve ever seen, truly a coach’s dream.” Odoms won the state high jump title, led West Oso’s basketball team in scoring for three years, and captained Dickey’s squad as a sophomore, junior and senior. Named to the Texas Football Super Team in 1967, Odoms had a standout college career for the University of Houston before being selected by the Denver Broncos with the fifth overall pick in 1972 NFL draft – the second-highest draft slot ever for a tight end. Odoms was a four-time Pro Bowler with the Broncos and ended his 12-year career with 396 catches for 5,755 yards and 41 TDs–all Top 5 totals for tight ends at the time.
