Standout tackle anchored 9-1 Bulldogs team for new coach Gordon Wood in 1951 -- winningest squad of legendary coach's first decade on sidelines. Went on to earn all-conference honors at Hardin-Simmons before joining Wood as an assistant at Victoria in 1958. After short stints at Brady and Coleman, he rejoined Wood at Brownwood (1963-1985) and spent 22 more years on staff, serving as offensive line coach and defensive signal-caller for 13 district champs, 15 playoff teams and a record 6 state champions (plus 1 other state finalists). West was selected to coach in the 1976 THSCA All Star game and is a member of Hardin-Simmons Football HOF and Gordon Wood HOF.
