Lockhart athletic director/head football coach Todd Moebes announced his resignation on Thursday after leading the Lions for six seasons.

In a letter to the community Moebes indicated he had accepted another position, but did not specify the position or location.

Moebes, who has a 76-75 career record, spent 2011-2017 leading Abilene Cooper where he led the Cougars to five regional semifinal appearances.

After a year off from coaching in 2018, Moebes was hired to lead Lockhart in 2019. He guided the Lions to playoff appearances in 2019, 2022 and 2023. The 2022 campaign was a high-water mark as Lockhart posted an 8-4 record and advanced to the area playoffs, its first playoff win since 2015.

The Lions moved up to 5A-Division I in their most recent alignment and finished with a 2-8 record in District 12-5A Division I.

Lockhart will be an intriguing job opening in Central Texas as it is in a very desirable location from a standard of living perspective and they are a fast growing community that still has just a single high school.
