DALLAS -- The SEC's blockbuster event of the summer is halfway over. Texas and Texas A&M haven't graced the Media Day stage yet, but there were plenty of Texas ties at the Omni Dalllas on Tuesday. Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold and defensive back Billy Bowman Jr. pontificated whether Ryan or Guyer ran Denton, while Midland Legacy alum Chris Brazzell II earned a shoutout from Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel.
Here are the awards from Day Two.
Bar of the Day – Georgia head coach Kirby Smart
Humility is a virtue. Georgia is 42–2 in the last three seasons with two national championships, but you won't catch Smart polishing his trophies.
Biggest Laugh – Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables
Question: "You and Texas are in lockstep going into the SEC, and I don't know if you and Sark will be sharing information as you all go in the conference together, but do you see --"
Venables: Probably not.
'Dude I told you that in confidence' award – Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold
Arnold may be a first-year starter, but he carried himself like Media Day veteran.
'I'm still workshopping this one' award – Missouri head coach Eliah Drinkwitz
Not everything needs to be an acronym, Coach.
'Are we still talking about this?' award – Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel
Before he was a hot shot head coach with one of the nation's best offenses, Heupel was a national champion quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners. Heupel was on Oklahoma's staff from 2006-14, the last four years as co-offensive coordinator. There were initially hard feelings after he was let go, but fences have been mended since. Tennessee travels to Norman September 21.
