Sources tell Dave Campbell’s Texas Football that Schreiner University is set to hire Kenny Treschitta as the program’s first head coach with a public announcement set for Monday morning. Director of Athletics Bill Raleigh told DCTF earlier in the year that he wanted a staff in place in 2024.

Schreiner University will become the 50th college in Texas to field a football team when the Mountaineers begin a junior varsity schedule in 2025 before joining the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) in Division III with fellow Texas programs such as Austin College, McMurry, and Texas Lutheran.

Treschitta has recent experience helping a program start from scratch. He spent the past five years as the first and only defensive coordinator at New England University. He coached safeties in 2015 at The Catholic University of America, inside linebackers coach at Becker College in 2014, and defensive line at McKendree University in 2013 – all in Division III.

Treschitta graduated from The Catholic University of America in 2009 and was a two-year starter for the Cardinals as a defensive back and linebacker. He also returned nine kickoffs in his 25-game college career. Schreiner, which is located in Kerrville, is a private university with a reported student population of 1,103 in the fall of 2021.
