DeSoto 2025 S Sael Reyes (6'0, 190) committed to SMU over offers from Texas, Texas A&M, and Miami (FL).

"It was a great environment," Reyes said. "It was great to get around the coaches and talk ball. They really made me feel like I am a priority to them. They really felt like family."

Reyes is familiar with the recruiting process, as his brother, Jacksonville Jaguars safety Antonio Johnson, collected 25 offers before committing to Texas A&M. Reyes, rated as the No. 2 safety in Texas, surpassed his brother with 26 offers.

Reyes joins an SMU class that currently ranks No. 12 nationally. He will be part of an elite secondary group that includes McKinney CB Zay Gentry, Duncanville S Tyren Polley, Duncanville CB Javion Holliday, and Mansfield Timberview S Nathan Tilmon.

Reyes emphasized the fit with SMU Defensive Coordinator and safeties coach Scott Symons' scheme.

"What continues to excite me is the opportunity to be able to come in as a freshman and compete for a starting spot," Reyes explained. "Also, I feel the defensive schemes fit my style of play and I could fit right in."

Reyes helped lead DeSoto to the 6A Division II state title in 2023, recording 60 tackles, three tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, and one interception to earn second-team all-district honors. In 2022, Reyes led East St. Louis (Ill.) to a Class 6A state championship.
