Shadow Creek head coach Brad Butler announced he was retiring from coaching on Wednesday.

Butler coached for 28 seasons, the last eight spent building the Shadow Creek program from the ground up into a state champion and Houston area powerhouse at the 6A level.

“I’ve been so lucky to work at some great programs with great kids, great coaches and great administrators," Butler said. "But my wife has retired and I think this is time. We’ll get to watch Duke play at Colorado School of Mines and escape to Costa Rica as often as possible."

Butler led Shadow Creek for six full varsity seasons, posting an incredible 66-11 overall record. That included leading the Sharks to the 5A-Division I state title game in their inaugural varsity season in 2018. In 2019, the Sharks got it done posting a 16-0 record and winning the 5A-Division I state title. Shadow Creek has since transitioned to Class 6A and the Sharks have been more than competitive, including posting an 11-1 record in 2022.

Prior to opening up Shadow Creek, the Brownwood native spent time as an assistant at Klein, Magnolia and Manvel before being named as Shadow Creek’s first ever head coach.

“I’ve been so lucky," he said. "My wife made coaching a team effort and we are excited about the next phase."

Considering Shadow Creek’s run of success, it won’t be a surprise if Alvin ISD elects to stay inside for this job opening. But if the job gets posted, there’s no doubt it will attract plenty of nationwide interest.
