MVP Honors for Stephenville Sleeper Eakin
Stephenville 2022 WR Coy Eakin (6'3, 185) had a big game on the biggest stage.
Eakin entered the game with offers from Harding, UIW, Lamar, Ouachita Baptist, Tarleton State and A&M Commerce.
He had a dominating performance to win Offensive MVP honors and lead Stephenville to a 38-21 win while hauling in nine receptions for 187 yards and three touchdowns.
Scouting Report: Eakin is a smooth route runner who naturally creates separation and has good ball tracking skills. He will not blow you away with his straight-line speed, but he is deceptively fast. He will be a great addition to any of the programs that have offered him to this point but could sneak onto an FBS-level recruiting board.
Lamar Gets a Major Addition at Running Back
It was a huge week for China Spring ATH Major Bowden (5'9, 175), who signed with Lamar on Wednesday and won a state title on Friday.
"They were big days," Bowden said of his week. "We did not really have a ceremony for our signing. We want to wait until later in the year and have a big signing with all of our friends. Signing for Lamar and turning around and winning the state championship on Friday is big."
Bowden secured Offensive MVP honors after racking up 231 total yards of offense and scoring three touchdowns in a 31-7 win over Gilmer.
"It has you dreamed it up," Bowden said. "16-0 in your senior year, winning a state championship."
Now that Bowden's high school career is over, he is headed off to Lamar where he will transition from quarterback to a new position.
"I am playing as a running back there," Bowden reported. "(I am bringing) agility, just making guys miss and never stopping."
"The coaching staff is a bunch of good guys, and the environment they are trying to build there is going to be big."
Katy Paetow LB a Name to Know
2023 Katy Paetow LB Alex Kilgore (6'1, 205) had a huge play in a 27-24 win over College Station when he scooped up a fumble and rumbled 31 yards to set up a Panthers touchdown.
"We worked every day, hard, to come out with the same intensity and the same intensity in practice and it really paid off here in a dogfight," Kilgore said.
Kilgore is a prospect to know in the 2023 cycle and he has caught some early interest from schools like Texas, UTSA, and Oklahoma but he is not all concerned about recruiting at this point in time. For now, he is just happy to be celebrating a state title win with his team.
"It was great, I had a lot of looks, but all of that really doesn't matter," Kilgore reported. "When we get in between the white lines the only thing that really matters is me and my family, which is me and my teammates and we went out and made it happen tonight."
