One of East Texas’ oldest and most heated rivalries will be renewed on Friday night at Lobo Stadium as Marshall, fresh off a win over Tyler, looks to take down the No. 1 team in 5A-Division I Longview.

Marshall unleashed a ferocious ground attack last week in the 40-29 victory over the Lions. RB J.Q. Davis led the way for the Mavericks with 153 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Despite playing a sloppy game against a good 6A opponent, Longview cruised to a 36-10 win over McKinney Boyd last week. RB Taylor Tatum ran for 145 yards and three touchdowns, while WR Jalen Hale hauled in six passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Lobos.

Longview has absolutely dominated their rivals from down the road in recent years and there’s no reason to believe we won’t see a repeat in the Lobos home opener. Marshall keeps it interesting for a half and Longview pulls away in the second.
