Woodville ISD made it official Tuesday morning, naming Elgin head coach Heath Clawson as the next athletic director and head football coach at Woodville High School. Clawson replaces Ty Robinson, who, after leading the Eagles to the 3A Division II state title game in 2024, departed to take over at Crawford.

“When the job opened, I was intrigued due to the recent success, and when the search firm reached out, I definitely wanted to explore the opportunity,” Clawson told Dave Campbell's Texas Football. “I had a cousin who lived there for a couple of years and had nothing but amazing things to say about the community.”

Clawson has been at the helm at Elgin for the past four seasons. After a tough debut campaign in 2021 that saw the Wildcats go 0-10, he rebuilt Elgin into a playoff contender. The Wildcats posted a 7-4 record in 2022 and finished 6-6 in 2024, including a bi-district playoff win — the program’s first playoff victory since 2014.

“Elgin has been wonderful to my family," Clawson said. "We made lifelong friends, and the hardest part about this profession is leaving a community and great kids that you’ve built relationships with. I told the kids they will always be family to me — and sometimes family moves away, but that doesn’t mean we stop being family. Elgin’s always going to hold a special place for how this community welcomed us and made us feel at home.”

Before arriving at Elgin, Clawson spent two seasons on staff at Aledo (2019–2020), where he was part of two state championship teams as the running backs coach. From 2016 to 2019, he served as the head coach at Louise, leading the Hornets to three consecutive playoff appearances and a first-round playoff win in 2017.

Clawson will take over a Woodville program fresh off its best season in school history, finishing 13-3. With a strong core of returning talent, the Eagles are expected to once again contend in Region III.

“I want to meet the kids, get out in the community and build relationships, and make Woodville athletics great in every facet,” Clawson said.
