Sam Houston will play its 2025 home football games at Shell Energy Stadium, where the Houston Dynamo play in Major League Soccer, according to a press release. Bowers Stadium in Huntsville, which is usually the home of the Bearkats, is undergoing construction to the press box. The agreement is pending approval by the Texas State University Board of Regents later this month.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our program and our fans,” said SHSU Director of Athletics Bobby Williams “Playing at Shell Energy Stadium will provide a top-tier venue for our student-athletes to showcase their talent and for our fans to experience a dynamic, world-class atmosphere. We’re grateful to Shell Energy Stadium for their partnership in bringing the Bearkats to Houston for the 2025 season.”
Sam Houston is coming off a 10-win season in Year 2 as an FBS program. The site of games won’t be the only change for the Bearkats, however, as Phil Longo takes over for K.C. Keeler, who took the head coaching job at Temple in the offseason. The home slate consists of UNLV, Jax State, UTEP, Delaware, and FIU.
