Mesquite ISD on Monday announced that the district and Mesquite Horn head coach Courtney Allen were parting ways after Allen led the Jaguars program for the past three seasons.
Allen posted a 15-13 record in three seasons at Horn. His debut season was a smashing success as the Jaguars posted an 8-3 record, but Horn stumbled to a 5-5 mark in 2023, losing several nail-biters in the process (Horn lost three games by four points or less). In 2024, the Jags bottomed out at 2-8 after UIL Realignment sent them went into 11-6A with the likes of Duncanville, DeSoto, Waxahachie, Lancaster and Cedar Hill.
Prior to coming to Horn, Allen was the head coach at North Crowley for four seasons. After two seasons of struggles, Allen led NCHS to the area playoffs in 2020 and posted a 7-4 mark in 2021.
MISD hired an interim head coach at Mesquite High in June 2024. With the timing of this opening, however, we expect Mesquite ISD to post the job as soon as today.
The timing of the opening likely means the Jaguars will forgo spring football, but smart money would indicate Mesqutie ISD will conduct a thorough but rapid search for the next head football coach at Horn.
