HONORING A LEGACY, EMBRACING THE FUTURE: LEADERSHIP TRANSITION AT DAVE CAMPBELL'S TEXAS FOOTBALL

LEWISVILLE, TEXAS - - On what would have been Dave Campbell’s 100th birthday, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football is proud to announce a series of leadership transitions that both honor the organization’s storied past and set a bold course for the future.

In recognition of his pioneering vision and enduring contribution to the state of Texas, Dave Campbell — whose legacy is the very bedrock of the organization — will be honored posthumously with the title of Editor Emeritus. This designation ensures that his influence and spirit will always remain a guiding force for the publication he founded.

The longtime sports editor at the Waco Tribune-Herald, Campbell founded Texas Football magazine on his kitchen table in 1960, growing it into a statewide phenomenon still known today as “the bible of Texas football.” Campbell served as the magazine’s only editor-in-chief until his death in December 2021 at the age of 96.

“We carry Dave’s legacy with us in everything we do. It’s the heart of this brand and always will be,” said Brooke Miller, who was hired in 2024 as Chief Content Officer. “Honoring that legacy means more than just preserving the past. It’s our responsibility to make sure Dave Campbell’s Texas Football continues to matter to the next generation - through smarter technology, innovative storytelling, and the same deep respect for Texas high school football that’s defined us for 65 years.”

As part of that vision, Greg Tepper will officially assume the role of Editor-In-Chief effective March 14. Tepper joined Texas Football in 2011 and became managing editor in 2013, overseeing the organization’s expansion from a beloved annual magazine into a dynamic, multi-platform media brand that serves football fans across Texas year-round.

“I am profoundly honored to step into the role of editor-in-chief,” Tepper said. “Dave Campbell laid the foundation for our success, and I consider this both a privilege and a charge to keep — to build on Dave’s legacy while steering the organization toward a vibrant future.”

In addition to Tepper’s elevation, William Wilkerson has been appointed Managing Editor of TexasFootball.com. A seasoned sports journalist, Wilkerson joined the team in 2019 as digital director, helping Dave Campbell’s Texas Football flourish in the digital space and expanding its footprint across platforms.

“Our content leadership team reflects both the history and the future of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football,” said President Adam Hochfelder. “We’re growing and evolving, but our purpose remains unchanged — we’re here to serve the coaches, players, fans, and communities who make Texas football so special.”
