Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has officially declared for the NFL Draft after hinting at his intentions before the Cotton Bowl, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Ewers ends his Texas career as the program's third-all-time leading passer with 9,128 yards and 68 touchdowns. He was the face of the program's revival in the last two years, leading the Longhorns to a 21–5 record, two conference championship games and the first-ever College Football Playoff berths. His signature moments include walking into Bryant-Denny Stadium and knocking off Nick Saban's Alabama, toppling the reigning national champion Michigan Wolverines in the Big House, and breaking the Big 12 Championship game passing record with 402 yards against Oklahoma State.
And for all those accolades, Ewers will be rememebered as one of the most polarizing quarterbacks in program history due to his perfect five-star rating out of Southlake Carroll and the other perfect five-star with a more famous last name that backed him up for two seasons. In every close loss (twice by a single play in the CFP semifinals) to one of college football's elite programs or even in his own Dr. Pepper commercial, a Manning-sized shadow hovered over Ewers.
"I don't know if he'd ever live up to the standards of what everyone thinks he's supposed to be," Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said after the Cotton Bowl.
Maybe he never did, but he also had one of the best single careers in Texas history. Now, it's Arch time in Austin.
