In an announcement that sent shockwaves through the Texas high school football world, Mart head coach Kevin Hoffman announced his retirement Thursday, ending one of the most successful runs in recent history and leaving vacant one of the state's most decorated programs.
"After 34 years of dedicated service in education, I have decided to harness my experience and broaden my professional horizons by joining the retirement industry," Hoffman posted on Twitter. "I am thrilled and grateful for this new opportunity. I feel fortunate to have had the chance to coach and help shape the lives of outstanding athletes. To all current and former players, thank you for the privilege of being part of your journey. The memories and relationships built will be cherished forever."
A longtime assistant at Mart, Hoffman ascended to the head coaching role in 2015 and quickly found success, winning three consecutive state championships from 2017-2019 and appearing in three other state championship games in 2020, 2022 and 2023. Hoffman is the second-fastest coach in UIL Texas high school football history to 100 wins, accomplishing the mark in just 109 games (Katy's Gary Joseph did it in 105). He finishes his nine-year head coaching career with an astonishing 121-13 record, six title game appearances and three state championships.
Hoffman's retirement opens up one of the head coaching job at state's most decorated programs — Mart is one of six programs in Texas high school football with eight or more state championships, and the only such program at the Class 2A level.
