COLUMBUS HIGH SCHOOL QB ADAM SCHOBEL ANNOUNCED AS 2024 MR. TEXAS FOOTBALL
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, the leading publication for all things football in Texas, is proud to announce Columbus High School QB Adam Schobel as the recipient of the 2024 Mr. Texas Football High School Player of the Year Award.
Schobel will be honored on the field at the Kinder's Texas Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, featuring the Baylor Bears and the LSU Tigers.
Mr. Texas Football annually recognizes the most outstanding high school football player in the state of Texas.
One of the state's most decorated signal-callers, Schobel dazzled the state at the controls of the electrifying Columbus attack, throwing for 3,734 yards and 55 touchdowns, completing 74 percent of his passes and throwing just three interceptions. Schobel also ran for 575 yards and 13 scores on the ground, bringing his total offensive account to 4,309 yards and 68 touchdowns. Above all, Schobel led Columbus to its first state championship in the program's 98-year history.
Signed to play for the TCU Horned Frogs — where his father and head coach Matt Schobel played before a decorated NFL career — Adam Schobel is rated by Dave Campbell's Texas Football as a four-star prospect and one of the top quarterbacks in the Class of 2025.
Former winners of the award include 2018 Heisman Trophy winner and current Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray (2013-2014, Allen), 2012 Heisman Trophy winner QB Johnny Manziel (2010, Kerrville Tivy), former Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers (2007, Lamar Consolidated), current Denver Broncos receiver Marvin Mims (2019, Frisco Lone Star) and current Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks (2020, Hallettsville). Most recently, current Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway took home the award in 2023.
