Woodville (12-2) vs Tidehaven (12-2), 7 p.m. Thursday at New Caney’s Randall Reed Stadium:

Woodville, who is making its first ever appearance in the state semifinals, will take on a Tidehaven squad that fell to Gunter in the state title game a year ago.

Woodville has victimized Northeast Texas the last two weeks in emphatic fashion with a 30 point win over De Kalb in the regional semifinals and a dominant 40-7 win over Daingerfield last week.

Tayvion Hunter got things done in a major way for the Eagles tallying five touchdowns last week. His production along with the development of sophomore QB Luke Babin has propelled Woodville to heights unseen in the history of their program.

Tidehaven, despite its run a year ago, was an underdog last week to powerful Lexington, but the Tigers continued to make a habit of proving doubters wrong with an impressive 35-21 win.

A key goal-line stand with less than five minutes and leading by just seven proved to be vital for THS, while ATH T.J. Galvan had a big game in all three phases for the Tigers catching a touchdown pass from QB Kale Russell, picking off a pass and he also blocked a Lexington field goal.

Woodville’s going to have a major team speed edge over Tidehaven, but that didn’t stop the Tigers a year ago when they upset Daingerfield in the state semifinals. Woodville’s playing so well right now and their consistency towards the end of the season has been incredible.

Stepp’s Pick: Woodville by 9
