A closer look at some of the top SMU Mustangs signees in the 2025 recruiting class.
Class Grade: B
SMU is entering a new era, competing with Power Five schools for top talent, and their success on the field is translating into strong recruiting wins. Notably, they secured a commitment from national QB Ty Hawkins from IMG Academy, which helped ease the blow of losing Keelon Russell to Alabama. The Mustangs have surged over 25 spots in the national rankings and have added talent that should keep them in the hunt for conference titles.
Three Key Additions
Who were the highest-rated signees or prospects who might come in and make a significant impact?
QB Ty Hawkins (6'0, 195) - Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy: He spent his senior season at IMG Academy, but before that, he was dicing up defenses at San Antonio Johnson. The four-star dual-threat flipped from TCU to SMU, so his pledge means even more to the Mustangs fan base.
OT Dramodd Odoms (6'5, 290) - Houston Lamar: His long arms and strength allow him to control defenders, making him a reliable force in both pass protection and the ground game. This four-star has a high developmental upside.
WR Jalen Cooper (6'1, 165) - Cibolo Steele: Cooper is a route-running technician with precise footwork and crafty head fakes that leave defenders off balance. His knack for creating separation and strong hands make him a reliable chain mover and deep threat.
Hometown Hero
What prospect was a fan favorite or a local hero who starred near the campus?
WR Daylon Singleton (5'10, 165) - DeSoto: Straight-line blistering speed helps Singleton to be one of the state's most elite deep ball winners, and he plays for one of the Dallas-area powerhouse pipelines alongside fellow SMU signee S Sael Reyes.
Super Sleeper
We pick one prospect on the commit list and explain how he might outplay his ranking in college.
DB Tyren Polley Jr. (5'10, 180) - Duncanville: Polley consistently shines on a star-studded field. He's the top tackler in open space and the most reliable pass defender on a defense stacked with D1 talent.
