Texas Tech is hiring Mack Leftwich as its next offensive coordinator, sources tell Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Leftwich, 30, has called plays for the Texas State Bobcats for the last two seasons and was at UIW in the FCS ranks prior to following G.J. Kinne to San Marcos.
Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire said that he wanted to keep a similar playing style to what former offensive coordinator Zach Kittley ran. He was named new head coach at FAU earlier in the week. Leftwich’s offenses at Texas State ranked 11th in scoring offense in 2024 (37.1 points per game) and 2023 (36.7 points per game).
Texas Tech was a Top 10 scoring offense last year, ranking eighth nationally with 38.7 points per game. SMU was the only team in Texas to score more, placing fifth in the FBS at 39.2 points per game. Leftwich had success with three different quarterbacks over the last three years. The Bobcats were 29th nationally in passing yards per game (265.5) and 16th in rushing (208.83).
Texas Tech is replacing both coordinators heading into 2024 as former Houston defensive coordinator Shiel Wood was announced as Tim DeRuyter’s replacement on national signing day.
