Texas and SMU are projected to make the 12-team College Football Playoff according to the latest bracket. The Longhorns (10-1) are ranked third and projected to get a bye into the quarterfinals as the top-ranked SEC squad. SMU (10-1) is ninth and would travel to Notre Dame in the first round if the standings held.

Texas faces Texas A&M, which is outside the 12-team projection at No. 20, in the renewal of the Lone Star Showdown. The winner heads to Atlanta to face Georgia on Dec. 7 in the SEC championship game. The Longhorns would likely make it into the field with a loss to the Aggies.

SMU enters the Top 12 for the first time this season after clinching a spot in the ACC championship game with a Week 13 win over Virginia. The Ponies will either play Miami (6) or Clemson (12) on Dec. 7 in Charlotte. Upsets losses last weekend by Ole Miss and Alabama opened the door for a second ACC team to reach the CFP.

Texas A&M needs to win the SEC to reach the CFP.
