Katy (11-1) vs Galena Park North Shore (12-0), 2 p.m. Friday at Houston’s NRG Stadium:
Two of Houston’s most well-known programs meet up on Black Friday once again in Houston’s premier venue with a raucous crowd ready to explode.
The two teams met six times between 2016 and 2019 with North Shore taking four of the six meetings, but they haven’t played since 2019 when North Shore took down the Tigers in the playoffs.
Katy got an early scare last week from Cy Falls, but the Tigers pulled away down the stretch for a 49-20 win. Katy’s potent ground game was hitting on all cylinders with Tremayne Hill racking up 191 yards and two scores. Aqualis Jordan rushed for 93 yards and a score while Joshua Smith added 55 yards and two scores. Aside from a couple of big plays, Katy contained Cy Falls’ offense, especially in the second half.
North Shore raced out to a 30-0 lead on Fort Bend Ridge Point last week and held the Panthers off for a 44-27 victory. RB D’Andre Hardeman Jr. ran for 144 yards and two scores, while ATH Chris Thomas had 93 yards rushing and a score. QB Kaleb Bailey tossed three touchdowns as well to pace NSHS.
North Shore’s defense, which is elite in the back seven, will need to be on their game in run support this week as Katy will look to control pace and not get into a tack meet. The question is can the Tigers defense control that explosive North Shore attack with weapons galore?
