The community at Denton Ryan was rocked Wednesday morning with the news of the sudden death of longtime defensive coordinator Aaron De La Torre.
The news was confirmed via an e-mail sent from Ryan principal Vernon Reeves to parents.
De La Torre was in his seventh season with the Raiders, and his 17th season in coaching overall. A former four-year starter at defensive tackle for Stephen F. Austin, De La Torre had a brief career in the NFL and NFL Europe before moving into the coaching ranks, first with Stephen F. Austin and then with Ryan from 2009-11. He served as head coach at Irving for six seasons from 2012-17 before returning to Ryan, where he's served as defensive coordinator under coach Dave Henigan. His oldest son Alex was a two-time All-Big 12 selection at Texas before entering coaching himself at Wylie East; his youngest son Kolt is a offensive lineman at Stephen F. Austin.
This is a developing story; TexasFootball.com will update with details as they become available.
