11:52 p.m. - That is all for Week 5 after 11 hours and 52 minutes of continuous coverage. Enjoy your Sunday!

11:50 p.m. - Ottawa (Ariz.) 35, Nelson 7 Final

The Lions' performance against one of the top teams in the Sooner Athletic Conference was very respectable. Nelson will look to rebound at Langston next week.

11:33 p.m. - No. 20 Abilene Christian 55, Utah Tech 30 Final

The Wildcats go on the road and continue to impress. RB Sam Hicks (Nolan Catholic HS/Saddleback/Central Michigan) gained 203 yards and three TDs on the ground to lead the offense. ACU sets up a massive United Athletic Conference showdown next week in Abilene against No. 7 Central Arkansas. Maybe it's time for some conference power rankings in Four Downs on Monday.

10:24 p.m. - OUAZ 14, Nelson 7 Halftime

10:20 p.m. - Texas A&M-Kingsville 56, Sul Ross State 21 Final

The Javelinas roll as expected. Their next three games against MSU, Angelo State, and Central Washington will determine their hopes for the Lone Star Conference title and the playoffs.

10:17 p.m. - Prairie View A&M 36, Grambling 34 Final/5 OT

One week after a heartbreaking overtime loss to Southern, the Panthers rebounded by winning the State Fair Classic in a thriller. It was a much-needed victory for Bubba McDowell's squad, who can't afford another loss if they are to defend their SWAC West title.

10:13 p.m. - Blinn 44, No. 9 Navarro 43 Final

What an incredible comeback by the Buccaneers to shock the Bulldogs. Navarro will have a long two weeks until they play Trinity Valley. The race for the SWJCFC playoffs is far from over, but the Bulldogs will need to rebound. Blinn just let the conference know they aren't going to be pushovers, either.

10:05 p.m. - UT Permian Basin 27, Midwestern State 3 Final

The Falcons rebound with a nice victory over the Mustangs. The question facing UTPB is which team will show up each week. This team has a ton of talent but has lacked the consistency needed to make the playoffs thus far. Considering the competitive nature of Super Region Four, the Falcons are likely eliminated with another loss.

10:01 p.m. - PVAMU and Grambling are headed to the third overtime!

9:52 p.m. - Langston 35, Texas College 25 Final

The win-loss record may not indicate exactly how far this Steers program has come under Jarrail Jackson. TC could be a dangerous program if they received enough funding to be on par with other teams in the conference.

9:46 p.m. - Jackson St 43, Texas Southern 14 Final

The Tigers aren't ready to compete with the top teams in the SWAC yet. But give Cris Dishman a few years and see if they aren't in the conversation.

9:42 p.m. - ACU 27, Utah Tech 16 Halftime

9:40 p.m. - PVAMU and Grambling are headed to OT in the State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl, tied at 24.

9:25 p.m. - No. 16 Tarleton 36, Southeastern La. 33 Final

The Texans find a way to win another game. The offense finally began clicking again in the second half, thanks to a more efficient passing attack. And they needed every single bit of that offense to beat the Lions. What's dangerous about Tarleton is it feels like they haven't even come close to reaching their true potential this season. Look out when they truly get it going. Kayvon Britten led the rushing attack once again with 173 yards and a TD on 28 attempts.

9:06 p.m. - No. 7 Central Arkansas 34, No. 19 Lamar 14 Final

Peter Rossomando found out where his program stands in the building process. While he will not be satisfied, this Cardinals program has drastically improved in a year and a half, and the future at Lamar is very bright. Many have tried to awaken the sleeping giant that is Lamar, but Rossomando has found a recipe of success.

8:54 p.m. - Tim Burns is nearly a lock for the All-non-FBS team at this point. He's one of those guys who is so dangerous with the ball in his hands that you must invent ways to get him the ball. At a minimum, he's a wide receiver and return specialist.

8:49 p.m. - Close games in progress: PVAMU and Grambling tied at 17, and SLU leading No. 16 Tarleton 33-29 early in the fourth quarter.

8:45 p.m. - East Texas Baptist 47, Centenary (La.) 8 Final

8:39 p.m. - Texas A&M-Kingsville 21, Sul Ross 14 Halftime

8:28 p.m. - UTPB 17, MSU 3 Halftime

Some interesting decisions have been made in this game. MSU attempted to catch the Falcons' special teams by surprise with a fake punt that was quickly dropped for a loss. UTPB then chose to forego a short field goal attempt, leading 10-0 in the second quarter. The Falcons would score a TD on that drive and then unsuccessfully attempted an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff.

8:25 p.m. - Navarro 30, Blinn 7 Halftime

The Bulldogs are a very good team.

7:37 p.m. - Grambling 17, PVAMU 7 Halftime

7:34 p.m. - SLU 16, No. 16 Tarleton 14 Halftime

The Texans need more from their passing game in the second half.

7:27 p.m. - UCA 20, Lamar 7 Halftime

It's been a tough night for Lamar's field goal kicker. He entered the game having made every attempt this season but has missed two field goals tonight.

7:19 p.m. - Jackson State leads Texas Southern 13-0 at the half.

6:57 p.m. - Wayland Baptist 49, Louisiana College 44 Final

This is a signature victory for Marcos Hinojos Sr.'s era in Plainview. Since he became the head coach before last season, he has been adamant that he would get that program headed in the right direction. And he was right. But he won't accept any of the credit. WBU nearly beat Sul Ross and now owns a win over the defending Sooner Athletic Conference champion. I don't know if they are on the same level as Texas Wesleyan and OUAZ, but they are now contenders who can win if things break well for the Pioneers.

6:29 p.m. - In-progress score updates:

WBU 49, La. Christian 28 Mid 4th

UCA 7, Lamar 0 Mid 1st

JSU 3, TSU 0 Late 1st

SLU 0, Tarleton 0 Mid 1st

PVAMU 0, Grambling 0 Mid 1st

ETBU 14, Centenary (La.) 2 Late 1st

6:08 p.m. - Western Oregon 24, West Texas A&M 16 Final

This Buffs offense isn't working efficiently enough, leaving the defense in a tough spot. WT's offense averaged 3.65 yards per play against a Wolves defense that entered the contest, allowing an atrocious 0.604 Defensive Points Per Play, the worst in the Lone Star Conference. The Buffs have many questions to answer before they host Western New Mexico in two weeks.

5:58 p.m. - Cisco 35, No. 5 Kilgore 30 Final

The Wranglers make a statement that will be heard nationally after a 35-30 road victory over last year's national semifinalist. Head coach Charlie Rizzio was a huge part of building the program as defensive coordinator under Stephen Lee last season, and it's clear the program is trending in the right direction. The Rangers gave a great shot, and their defense nearly held on, but Cisco's defensive line and passing attack was too much. These teams could meet again in the playoffs, which would be must-see football.

5:16 p.m. - Wayland Baptist is tied at 21 against reigning Sooner Athletic Conference champion Louisiana College at halftime. This game is an excellent marker on the Pioneers program under Marcos Hinojos Sr. As the first half suggests, the WBU football program is headed in the right direction.

5:03 p.m. - Score update on current games:

Cisco 27, No. 5 Kilgore 20 Late 3rd

WOU 14, WT 3 Late 3rd

Louisiana Christian 21, WBU 14 Late 2nd

4:41 p.m. - Texas Lutheran 49, Lyon 0 Final

Individual stats are unavailable at this time, but the Bulldogs handled their business as expected this week. TLU's next two contests are against Austin College, with a bye week in between. The Bulldogs game at home against McMurry in late October will decide the SCAC champion.

4:21 p.m. - Western Oregon leads WT 14-3 at the half. The Buffs had a prime opportunity to pull within a TD and seize the momentum heading into the break but had to settle for a 22-yard FG, which has been the story of the 2024 season for the Buffs. This team fails to execute consistently, especially at critical moments. I know it's frustrating but it's on everyone in that locker room to figure out how to fix it.

4:17 p.m. - Cisco leads No. 5 Kilgore 21-14 at the half. The Rangers tied the contest late in the first half, but the Wranglers answered to regain the lead. Kilgore has a habit of playing better in the second half, but it's time to put some respect on this Cisco team. They beat Trinity Valley and are giving a team considered one of the national title favorites all it can handle thus far.

4:02 p.m. - Score update of games in progress

TLU 42, Lyon 0 Late 3rd

Cisco 14, Kilgore 7 Late 2nd

WOU 14, WT 0 Mid 2nd

3:58 p.m. - Tyler 23, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M 13 Final

The Apaches didn't start the season well with losses to Dodge City and Georgia Military but are 2-0 in SWJCFC action with wins over the Norsemen and Trinity Valley. Tyler's seed in the SWJCFC playoffs will be determined by its final three games in the regular season against Cisco, Kilgore, and Navarro.

3:52 p.m. - Hardin-Simmons 90, North American 7 Final

Congratulations to Jesse Burleson, who earned his 100th victory in his 133rd game as Cowboys head coach. The victory also set a program record for the largest margin of victory (83 points). HSU faces a massive test next week when Endicott visits Abilene at 1 p.m.

3:46 p.m. - McMurry 34, Austin College 9 Final

The War Hawks committed only one penalty in the second half, and the defense pitched a shutout to earn another SCAC victory. McMurry was led by QB Jess Hoel, who completed 21 of 30 passes for 269 yards with two TDs and one INT while adding 65 yards and two TDs on 11 rush attempts. Kristopher Martin caught five passes for 101 yards to lead the receiving corps.

3:30 p.m. - HCU 27, Indiana St 24 Final

The Huskies earned a nice road victory as the Sycamore missed wide right on a 29-yard FG attempt with a minute remaining in regulation. HCU was led by QB Eli Brickhandler (North Carolina A&T), who completed 12 of 18 passes for 107 yards and a TD while leading the Husky rush attack with 70 yards and a TD on 12 attempts.

3:14 p.m. - Score update:

Wittenburg 36, HPU 29 Final

HCU 27, Indiana St 24 Late 4th

McMurry 20, AC 9 Early 4th

HSU 69, NAU 0 Early 4th

WT 0, WOU 0 Early 1st

Kilgore 0, Cisco 0 Early 1st

3:11 p.m. - TLU takes a 28-0 lead over Lyon at halftime. The Bulldog defense has bent against the Scots but hasn't allowed any points, thanks to three interceptions by the defense. Offensively, TLU is averaging 6.1 yards per rush attempt.

3:06 p.m. - Wittenburg 36, HPU 29 Final

The Yellow Jackets scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to make it a competitive contest, but the first three quarters of football were too much to overcome. Zy Gravitt (Wichita Falls HS) completed 25 of 47 passes for 407 yards with two TDs and two INTs. Mateo Hernandez (Plainview HS) caught five passes for 131 yards and a TD, and Gus Charles (Houston Davis HS/Sul Ross) added 128 yards on nine receptions.

2:27 p.m. - HSU leads NAU 48-0 at the half, and the stats are exactly what you would expect from this game. The Cowboys have 284 total yards, while the Stallions have 54 yards on 31 plays.

2:16 p.m. - McMurry leads AC 11-9 at the half. The War Hawks have outgained the 'Roos 182-91, but nine penalties for 90 yards have hampered the offense. These are the things Jordan Neal and McMurry must clean up if they meet their preseason expectations of SCAC champions.

2:04 p.m. - With HPU struggling on the road, I'm focusing on the McMurry at Austin College contest.

2:01 p.m. - Score update:

HCU 24, Indiana St 17 Half

Wittenburg 29, HPU 7 Late 3rd

HSU 34, NAU 0 Mid 2nd

McMurry 11, Austin 6 Late 2nd

1:44 p.m. - HCU leads Indiana State 24-17 at the half after the officials placed one second back on the clock, which allowed the Sycamores to add a FG before the break. The Huskies offense is glad not to be facing an FBS or top-25 opponent and has put 293 total yards on the board, including 170 yards on the ground.

1:10 p.m. - Halftime in Springfield, Ohio, where the remnants of Helene have forced the teams to deal with a decent amount of rain. The Yellow Jackets defense struggled to stop the rushing attack, and the offense continues to struggle this season under a new offensive coordinator. HPU appears to be the worst team in the ASC this year, which means a long season when you play ETBU, UMHB, and HSU twice.

12:54 p.m. - Score update:

Houston Christian 17, Indiana State 7 Early 2nd

Wittenburg 3, Howard Payne 0 2nd

11:30 a.m. - It's another full schedule with 20 non-FBS games across the great state of Texas. The action begins at noon with Houston Christian at Indiana State and Howard Payne at Wittenburg. See you at noon!
