Texas’s steady climb up the AP Top 25 culminated in a No. 1 ranking for the Longhorns in the most recent ranking published on Sept. 15.
They started the 2024 season behind Georgia and Ohio State. A win over Michigan catapulted them above Ohio State into the second spot ahead of Week 3. A dominating win over the UTSA Roadrunners coupled with Georgia’s struggles against Kentucky elevated Texas into No. 1.
Texas (1540 points) edged out the Bulldogs (1,518 points) thanks to 35 first place votes to their 23. Ohio State (1,461 points) sits third in the AP Top 25 with five first place votes. Alabama and Ole Miss round out the top five. Miami is the only team ranked in the top 11 spots to play outside the SEC or Big Ten.
Texas A&M returns to the rankings after a two-week hiatus following the 33-20 victory over Florida in the swamp. It was the Aggies’ first road victory since 2021. They picked up 82 points and sit in the 25th spot. No other team in Texas is ranked or received votes.
