10:55 a.m. - Welcome to another fantastic week of non-FBS football! The action kicks off in five minutes with Hardin-Simmons at Curry College. Two games kickoff at 1 p.m. with Wayland Baptist at Sul Ross and Navarro hosting Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in a SWJCFC battle. Prairie View A&M is at Michigan State at 2:30 p.m. and Abilene Christian at Northern Colorado, Southwestern at Puget Sound, and New Mexico Military at Kilgore starts at 3 p.m.
There are 14 games that kickoff beginning at 6 p.m. and the final four games of the night are set to begin at 7 p.m. Among the top games on the night slate are No. 25 Weber State at Lamar, No. 14 UIW at No. 8 Southern Illinois, Eastern New Mexico at Angelo State, SFA at McNeese, and No. 15 Western Colorado at West Texas A&M. Sit back, relax, update this page often, and let's enjoy some college football!
11:26 a.m. - A rare sighting at Curry where HSU has benefitted from two bad snaps by the Colonels for two safeties in the first quarter. Dameon Gomes (Mansfield HS/Murray St) returned the kickoff 83-yards for a touchdown after the second safety. The Cowboys lead 18-0 and the offense has produced one touchdown.
11:33 a.m. - The Cowboys QRF team is on fire today! Curry has attempted to punt three times today, resulting in two bad snaps for safeties and a forced fumble recovered by HSU at Curry's seven-yard line. HSU needs only one play to cash in on a TD when Kyle Brown (Vista Ridge HS/WT) found Brock Gibson (Wink HS) in the end zone. HSU leads 25-0 in the opening quarter
12:26 p.m. - It's been pure domination as HSU holds a 46-7 lead over Curry at the half. Noah Garcia (Abilene Cooper HS) has 74 yards rushing and two touchdowns on eight carries. Brown is 14 of 17 passing for 171 yards and three touchdowns. Gibson, Shemar Davis (Midland Legacy HS/UTPB), and Tailon Garrett (Dallas Carter HS) caught TD passes. Meanwhile, the defense has held Curry to 50 total yards, including -17 rushing yards on 18 attempts. The Cowboy's defense has been led by Harrison Foster (Sweetwater HS/ACU), who has five tackles (four solo) and is tied with eight other HSU defensive players with one tackle for loss.
1:02 p.m. - It didn't take HSU to score in the second half with freshman Braylon Henry (Lorena HS) scoring his first collegiate TD on a 25-yard run.
1:22 p.m. - Sul Ross out to an early 14-0 lead thanks to Vicente Luevano (San Diego HS), who has 113 all-purpose yards with a 33-yard TD reception and an 80-yard punt return for a TD.
1:43 p.m. - I cannot express enough that Tim Burns is the real deal at Navarro. He returned the kickoff 85 yards to bring the Bulldogs to a 7-7 tie against NEO in the second quarter.
1:47 p.m. - The Pioneers are on the board and pull within 17-7 at Sul Ross after Davian Guajardo (Denton HS) finds Dequan Green (West Hills Coalinga HS) for an 18-yard TD.
1:49 p.m. - Hardin-Simmons 73, Curry 21 Final
Kyle Brown completes 16 of 20 pass attempts for 193 yards and 3 TDs. The rushing attack was led by Braylon Henry (12-116-2) and Noah Garcia (8-74-2). The Cowboys have a week off before their home opener against North American. HSU coach Jesse Burleson will be looking for his 100th career victory in that contest.
2:19 p.m. - Tim Burns has one touchdown receiving and one on a kick return to stake Navarro to a 27-7 lead over Northeastern Oklahoma in the Bulldogs SWJCFC opener.
2:29 p.m. - SRSU up 31-21 against WBU at the half in Alpine. Andrew Martinez (Eastwood HS) is 14 of 21 with 3 TDs and 1 INT in the first half, and Luevano has five receptions for 91 yards and a TD with another TD on a kick return for the Lobos. Guajardo has completed 10 of 16 attempts for 150 yards and 2 TD. Jasiah Barron (McKinney Boyd HS) has 84 yards on five receptions for Wayland Baptist.
3:30 p.m. - ACU down 3-0 to Northern Colorado near the end of the first quarter. The offense hasn't found a rhythm with four dropped passes. Could focus be an issue with a big game looming at home against Idaho next week?
3:34 p.m. - Wow! Wayland Baptist kicker Leo Marini (Florianopolis, Brazil/Garden City CC) nails a 55-yard FG in Alpine! Sul Ross leads 45-30 through three quarters.
3:38 p.m. - Kilgore off to a good start, leading NMMI 13-3. The Rangers defense is dominating and the offense is hitting its stride today. This could get ugly for the Broncos.
3:43 p.m. - UNC up 10-0 on ACU early in the second quarter. It's not time for Wildcats fans to sound the alarm, yet, but a nice drive by the offense here would help change the momentum.
3:59 p.m. - Wayland Baptist has a chance to pull off the upset. The Pioneers have the ball at their own 34-yard line down 45-38 and 7:50 left in the fourth quarter.
4:09 p.m. - The Pioneers score the TD with 2:04 remaining in regulation. WBU coach Marcos Hinojos Sr. Chooses to go for the win but an offside call forces WBU to settle for a 45-45 tie.
4:16 p.m. - Navarro 48, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M 21 Final
The Bulldogs dominated the Norsemen through three quarters. Navarro has been impressive in its two wins this year, and they will be a force in the SWJCFC.
4:19 p.m. - Southwestern 24, Puget Sound 13 Halftime
The Pirates defense allowed two touchdowns on the Loggers first two drives of the game before locking down the rest of the half. Meanwhile, SU's offense has been tough to stop today.
4:21 p.m. - Kilgore 23, New Mexico Military Institute 16 Halftime
The Rangers had an opportunity to take a commanding lead over NMMI but had to settle for a FG inside the five-yard line. That Broncos took advantage of that momentum change to pull within striking distance.
4:23 p.m. - We're headed to OVERTIME in Alpine! WBU and SRSU are tied at 45.
4:27 p.m. - UNC 10, ACU 7 Halftime
The Wildcats get on the board late in the first half when Maverick McIvor (San Angelo Central HS/Texas Tech) found Sam Hicks (Nolan Catholic HS/Saddleback College/Central Michigan) for a 17-yard TD. Hopefully the Wildcats can use that as momentum in the second half.
4:35 p.m. - Sul Ross 52, Wayland Baptist 51 Final/OT
The Lobos rush the field after Carlos Arreola (Clint HS) hits the PAT to give SRSU the victory over the Pioneers. WBU had the ball first and scored when Keamodre Horace (Center HS) scored on a one-yard run. The ensuing PAT was blocked by Brayden Durocher (Pflugerville Hendrickson HS), leaving the Lobos down six points. SRSU faced a fourth down before Andrew Martinez (El Paso Eastwood HS) found Yamil Oaxaca (El Paso Montwood HS/UTEP) for a 20-yard TD.
Excellent showing by the Pioneers, who are clearly headed in the right direction under Marcos Hinojos Sr. Meanwhile, the win allows SRSU to breathe but I expect coach Barry Derickson will have plenty to say in the film room.
5:03 p.m. - ACU takes its first lead of the contest after Hicks outran the Bears defense for a 65-yard TD. The Wildcats lead UNC 14-10 and are starting to play good football.
5:10 p.m. - Southwestern has entered a weather delay at Puget Sound with the Pirates leading 31-19 with 4:49 left in the third quarter.
5:24 p.m. - ACU takes a 21-10 lead to the fourth quarter after Isaiah Johnson (Lubbock Cooper HS/North Texas) scores on a five-yard run. The Wildcats have seized the momentum since they scored late in the half.
5:39 p.m. - They're back underway at Puget Sound following the lightning delay. A storm dumped a solid amount of rain on the field during the delay.
5:53 p.m. - ACU is trying to hang on with two minutes remaining in regulation. Northern Colorado trailing 21-16 with the ball at the Wildcats 18-yard line.
5:54 p.m. - Angelo State has a helicopter land at midfield to deliver the game ball for the Rams home opener.
6:01 p.m. - UNC scores a TD but fails to convert the two-point conversion. ACU trails 22-21 with 1:10 remaining in regulation. The Wildcats kicker is Wichita Falls Hirschi product and Midwestern State transfer Ritse Vaes, who has a habit of nailing long field goals.
6:10 p.m. - No. 25 ACU 23, Northern Colorado 22 Final
*YELLLLLIIIIINNNNNGGGGG!!!! Ritse Vaes nails a 54-yard game-winning FG as time expires to lift the Wildcats to victory ahead of a HUGE home game next week against No. 4 Idaho!
6:14 p.m. - Kilgore 40, New Mexico Military Institute 30 Final
The Rangers score 17 unanswered points in the second half to remain undefeated.
6:18 p.m. - Southwestern 47, Puget Sound 19 Final
The Pirates take control of the game from the second quarter and never looked back even with a weather delay. SU now 2-0 on the season.
6:30 p.m. - Michigan State 40, Prairie View A&M 0 Final
The Panthers were led on offense by Trejon Spiller (Killeen Ellison HS), who finished with 91 yards receiving on seven receptions.
6:45 p.m. - SIU 14, UIW 7 End 1st
The Cardinals are driving and will begin the second quarter at the Salukis 42-yard line.

6:56 p.m. - Lamar starting QB Robert Coleman is forced to leave the game for one play after remaining down following a short run that ended with him taking a helmet to his knee. No worries though as Jakolby Longino (Hightower HS/UTEP) throws a TD pass to Sevonne Rhea (Porter HS/Texas State) to give the Cardinals a 10-0 lead over No. 25 Weber State.
7:01 p.m. - I'm loving the new buffalo helmet decal on West Texas A&M's helmets in their home opener tonight against No. 15 Western Colorado.
7:08 p.m. - Angelo State leads Eastern N.M. 17-13 at the half.
7:15 p.m. - McMurry leads Lyon 25-6 at the half bolstered by two intereceptions returned for a TD by Timothy Leatherman (Ingram Moore HS).

The Wildcats score the final 10 points of the half to tie the Cardinals.
7:43 p.m. - Still no score in Lake Charles, La., where SFA is battling McNeese. The Cowboys just missed a 42-yard FG attempt.
7:44 p.m. - No. 8 Southern Illinois 35, No. 14 UIW 14 Halftime
Tough first half for the Cardinals defense, who allows the Salukis to roll up 370 yards of offense in the opening half. Texas A&M transfer QB Zach Calzada is 15 of 26 passing for 161 yards and 2 TD, and leads UIW in rushing with 29 yards on four carries.

8:01 p.m. - Lamar takes a 17-16 lead over No. 25 Weber State following a 72-yard TD pass from Longino to Fresno State transfer Damien Moore.
8:03 p.m. - The Lumberjacks defense holds on fourth and short in McNeese territory and SFA makes the Cowboys immediately pay with a TD pass from Sam Vidlak to Anthony Williams.
8:21 p.m. - No. 15 Western Colorado leads WT 13-10 at the half. The Buffs missed a 43-yard FG attempt as time expired. Sean Johnson Jr. (Nebraska-Kearney) completed 14 of 20 passes for 117 yards and leads WT with 31 rushing yards and a TD on 5 attempts.
8:25 p.m. - SFA leads McNeese 10-7 at the half after the Cowboys complete a Hail Mary to score their first touchdown in the first half in three games this season.

The Kangaroos were led by freshman RB Zyan Stewart (Lancaster HS), who gained 117 yards and a TD rushing on 22 attempts.
8:42 p.m. - Angelo State 26, Eastern New Mexico 20 Final
Braeden Fuller (Floresville HS) completes 14 of 23 passes to lead the Rams to their first victory of the season, and a big one in Lone Star Conference play. ASU remains one of the top teams in the LSC with a stout defense.
8:50 p.m. - Howard Payne has pulled within 29-27 of Nelson with 2:33 left in the fourth quarter.
8:51 p.m. - Trinity 55, Belhaven 10 Final
The Tigers earn their first victory of the season led by QB Ryan Back (Vandegrift HS), who completes 10 of 16 passes for 180 yards and a TD. Winston Hutchison (Round Rock McNeil HS) adds 80 yards and two TDs on nine carries.
8:55 p.m. - Texas Wesleyan 80, North American 0 Final
The Rams improve to 3-0 on the season and pick up another Sooner Athletic Conference victory. Carson Rodgers (Houston St. Pius X HS) completes 11 of 17 passes for 199 yards with 3 TDs to lead TxWes. The Stallions were led by freshman QB Breezion Spiller (Killeen Ellison HS), who completed 8 of 11 passes for 40 yards and led NAU with 46 yards rushing.
9:01 p.m. - Mary Hardin-Baylor 85, Westgate Christian 6 Final
The Crusaders get a win that should take only some of the sting of last week's loss away. UMHB has a big trip to Wisconsin-Whitewater next week and need a win to make a statement that they're still a team that can contend nationally. Westgate Christian is a new NAIA school in Texas along the same lines of North American.
9:03 p.m. - Texas Lutheran 31, Centenary 8 Final
Weston Guzman (McAllen HS) leads TLU with 100 yards and a TD rushing, while Caden Bosanko (San Antonio East Central HS) completed 12 of 23 passes for 142 yards and a TD and added 62 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
9:06 p.m. - Lamar 17, No. 25 Weber St. 16 Final
The Cardinals pull of the upset at home when the Wildcats miss a 40-yard FG attempt as time expires. Jakolby Longino (Hightower HS/UTEP) came off the bench to complete 5 of 6 passes for 121 yards and two TDs for the Cardinals. Defending Dave Campbell's Texas Football non-FBS Player of the Week, Khalan Griffin (Tyler Chapel Hill HS/Rice) added 91 yards rushing for Lamar.
This is a signature win in the Peter Rossomando era at Lamar. He and the staff have restructured the roster and set a new culture at Lamar. This won't be the last top-25 win for the Cardinals under Rossomando.
9:13 p.m. - Nelson (formerly SAGU) 29, Howard Payne 27 Final
Briley Green (Midlothian Heritage HS) completed 20 of 33 passes for 168 yards and a TD and Dakeevion Rose (Malakoff HS) adds 113 yards and a TD rushing to lead the Lions to the upset win over the Yellow Jackets. Gus Charles (Houston Davis HS/Sul Ross) led HPU with 168 yards and a TD on seven receptions.
This is a massive win to open the Jared Hudgins era at Nelson. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets are 0-2 and next week against Lyon becomes a critical game to HPU's season.
9:22 p.m. - UTPB 67, Adams St. 14 Final
The Falcons bounce back from a loss at CSU-Pueblo with a dominating win over a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe. Stats are not available for this game yet. UTPB will have a bigger test at home against Texas A&M-Kingsville next week.
9:24 p.m. - Don't look now but UIW has the ball trailing 35-28 with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Forget that, go look!
9:25 p.m. - East Texas Baptist 35, Hendrix 21 Final
Kaden Brown (Midlothian Heritage/South Dakota St.) makes a case for Player of the Week after tossing four TD passes and one TD on the ground to lead the Tigers. Complete individual stats are not available yet.
9:30 p.m. - McMurry 48, Lyon 6 Final
The War Hawks open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action with a victory. Jess Hoel (Abernathy HS/Navarro) completed 18 of 27 passes for 274 yards and 3 TDs while leading McMurry with 35 yards rushing. Kristopher Martin (El Dorado HS) gained 114 yards on four receptions and Thomas Chandler (Waco HS) caught three passes for 64 yards and two TDs for the War Hawks.
9:34 p.m. - We're in OT in Commerce tied at 28 and Grambling is threatening to score.
9:39 p.m. - Grambling scores to take a 35-28 lead. The Lions must answer with a TD on this drive.
9:40 p.m. - No. 8 Southern Illinois 35, No. 14 UIW 28 Final
Zach Calzada (Texas A&M) completed 35 of 54 attempts for 366 yards and 3 TDs, with Roy Alexander (UAlbany) gaining 117 yards on 10 receptions and Jalen Walthall (Manvel HS/Hawaii) adding 104 yards and two TDs on nine receptions for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals are on a two-game losing streak but they will be a team to contend with come playoff time. They have played the two-time defending FCS champions and current No. 1 South Dakota State and No. 8 SIU on the road the last two weeks. And they held their own. UIW is ready for what the Southland Conference has to offer.
9:50 p.m. - Grambling 35, Texas A&M-Commerce 28 Final/OT
The Lions throw an interception on their drive in OT and lose a heartbreaker in their home opener. BK Jackson (Ridge Point HS/North Texas) showed the Lions have a run game this year by gaining 149 yards and two TDs on 16 carries.
9:53 p.m. - Texas A&M-Kingsville 27, Mississippi College 7 Final
The Javelinas offense was led by Roger Hagan (North Shore HS) with 93 yards and two TDs on the ground. The Javelinas earn their first win of the season but still have concerns about the offense's ability to move the ball consistently, which is not optimal with a trip to meet defending LSC champion UTPB next week.
9:59 p.m. - No. 15 Western Colorado 26, West Texas A&M 17 Final
The Buffs offense was led by Zorian Stewart (Nebraska-Kearney), who is a speedster that accounted for 150 yards and a TD on six receptions. WT is on a two-game losing streak but both games have been against top-15 NCAA Division II opponents. The Buffs struggled last week but played much better against the Mountaineers. The Buffs were driving with a chance to take the lead late in the third quarter before WCU intercepted a pass and took it back 96 yards for a TD.
10:03 p.m. - Houston Christian 70, Louisiana Christian 7 Final
The Huskies roll past an overmatched NAIA foe.
10:07 p.m. - SFA leads McNeese 24-21 but the Cowboys have the ball near midfield following the two-minute timeout.
10:16 p.m. - McNeese takes the lead 28-24 with 31 seconds remaining after a rushing TD from Clifton McDowell, who was ejected following the play for earning his second unsportsmanlike penalty of the contest.
10:18 p.m. - Trinity Valley and Tyler are tied at 7 with 37 seconds remaining in regulation.
10:21 p.m. - We have our 3rd overtime game of the day with Trinity Valley and Tyler needing extra time.
10:23 p.m. - McNeese 28, SFA 24 Final
Qualan Jones (Cedar Hill HS/Baylor) gained 155 yards on 27 carries and Sam Vidlak (Montana) completed 18 of 28 passes for 241 yards and three TDs but the Lumberjacks were unable to put the Cowboys away. This is a loss the 'Jacks couldn't afford. They were the better team but they allowed the Cowboys to complete a Hail Mary pass to end the first half. SFA responded well out of halftime but three turnovers proved costly. What makes this loss worse is that it's a Southland Conference game. This loss leaves SFA with very little wiggle room if they have any hopes of making the FCS playoffs.
10:47 p.m. - Tyler 14, Trinity Valley 7 Final/OT
The final game of the night was a thriller with the Apaches winning when Tre Guerra (Keller HS) hit Cam Thomas (Conroe HS) for the game-winner! This was an unexpected result in this rivalry after Tyler lost its previous two games of the season and the Cardinals entered after beating UIndy two weeks ago. But the Apaches strike a massive blow against TVCC to open SWJCFC action. The Cardinals will look to rebound at Cisco next week, while Tyler will enjoy a bye.
10:52 p.m. - Week 3 comes to a close after 11 hours, 52 minutes, and 3,967 words. This week saw three overtime games and two upsets. What a week! Thank you for reading and following along. Keep an eye on my social media accounts (CoryHogueSports) to see if the blog returns next week or if I’m at one of the big games on tap.
