Texas Commit Shines in Loss

2025 WR Kaliq Lockett (6'2, 175) - Sachse: The Texas Longhorns commit showed he's the real deal in a week one matchup against Coppell, despite his team's loss. Lockett was nearly impossible to cover, consistently winning 50-50 battles, even against a Power 5-caliber defensive back. With his long arms and knack for high-pointing the ball, he made some jaw-dropping sideline catches that were the offensive highlights of the night. Lockett finished with an impressive stat line of eight catches for 146 yards, including a spectacular one-handed 60-yard touchdown catch and run. - Greg Powers

Elite Freshman Makes Statement

2028 RB Jeremiah Tabor (6'2, 200) - Melissa: The freshman who they call 'Bear' was Melissa's starting tailback Saturday night in a season-opening defeat to Arkansas power Little Rock Parkview. Tabor, already a physically impressive specimen, showed elite speed on a 66-yard TD run that was called back for holding, outrunning a fast Parkview defense. He runs tough and has good vision and a feel for the game for a player his age. He finished with 72 yards rushing on 19 carries. Tabor picked up an offer from Texas Tech a day before his first varsity game. - Matt Stepp

Turntine Turns Heads

2026 OT John Turntine III (6'4, 205) - North Crowley: As one of the most sought-after offensive tackle prospects in the 2026 cycle, Turntine showed exactly why he's racked up over 30 scholarship offers in North Crowley's win over Lancaster. Playing at left tackle, he was an anchor. His combination of size, athleticism, and technique makes him a position-versatile force on the offensive front, and his rock-solid performance in game one only solidified his status as one of the top offensive line prospects in the country. - Greg Powers

Future Buckeyes Defender is Legit

2025 LB Riley Pettijohn (6'2, 210) - McKinney: Pettijohn is every bit the standout linebacker he's hyped up to be. The Ohio State commit combines quick instincts with blazing sideline-to-sideline speed. His size and athletic build instantly catch your eye. But it's when you see him explode downhill to blow up a play or scream to the edge for a tackle that you realize he's the real deal. A special highlight was watching him share the field with his younger brothers, 2026 LB Kailer Pettijohn and 2027 LB Cam Pettijohn. The trio created a memorable moment when they all blitzed on a third down in the second quarter to force a punt. - Greg Powers

A Sleeper No More

2025 LB Tristan Lawyer (6'4, 225) - Frisco Wakeland: The Wakeland linebacker posted 16 tackles, two tackles for loss, and was in on the game-winning sack against Grapveine. The senior displayed textbook run fits against a triple-option attack and missed just one tackle all night. Lawyer said postgame that Tulsa, Wyoming, Texas State and UTSA are the teams recruiting him hardest. My sense is Tulsa is the team to beat, as Lawyer has raved to DCTF twice about the care that the coaching staff shows. - Carter Yates
