In a stunning week one upset, Frisco Emerson 2025 LB Agape Lawrence (5'11, 215) had a breakout performance as the Mavericks stepped up two classifications to upset McKinney 17-7.
Lawrence helped his defense limit McKinney to 45 rushing yards, and he collected 17 tackles and four TFLs, building off of a 170-tackle sophomore campaign.
DCTF Scouting Report: Lawrence is best described as a hard-hitting thumper, the type of linebacker who thrives on physicality and plays with an old-school mentality. His tackling prowess and instinctive play are reminiscent of the classic, tone-setting tacklers. Lawrence has a unique ability to quickly read plays, putting himself in a position to make game-changing tackles.
After the game, Emerson head coach Kendall Miller did not mince words when asked about Lawrence's impact and why college programs should offer him to play at the next level.
"He is one of the best linebackers in the state of Texas," Miller stated emphatically. "Hands down. He is one of the best football players in the state of Texas."
Lawrence, who reports recruiting interest from North Texas, Sam Houston and Colorado State, is still seeking his first offer.
Other Emerson Prospects and Performances of Note:
2025 DB Maliek Hawkins (6'0, 175): The Oklahoma commit has stepped into a leader role and played like a leader. He shut down his half of the field, drawing assignments versus FBS-level talents. Hawkins plays under control and does not make mistakes.
2026 WR Blake McLane (6'2, 185): This game was a defensive battle, but McLane caught a touchdown pass and boasts the type of upside and frame that will catch the eye of colleges. As a matter of fact, he is already reporting interest from a good array of colleges, including Baylor, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tulsa.
2026: LB Jaxon Cannida (6'3, 200): A rangy up-and-comer with a nose for the football. Cannida is receiving early recruiting interest from TCU, Louisiana Tech and North Dakota State.
2025 OT Carson Lilly (6'5, 275): Lilly did well versus a tough McKinney defense. He has the size and skills that will make him desired by colleges down the recruiting homestretch. He has an offer from Northwestern Oklahoma State.
