Revenge – a dish best served in Week One.

Denton Guyer snapped Aledo's 30-game win streak – and avenged their Week One 48-45 loss last season – in a thrilling 35-30 victory on Friday night.

"After what Aledo did to us last year, we had a little chip on our shoulder to come out here and beat them," sophomore defensive tackle Khyren Haywood said. "The student section knew that. The parents knew that. Everybody here knew that."

Dave Campbell's Texas Football caught up with Haywood and wide receiver Corbin Glasco postgame to discuss their standout performances and latest recruiting updates.

Offensive MVP – 2026 WR Corbin Glasco

Denton Guyer head coach Reid Heim swore lightning didn't strike twice – until he coached Corbin Glasco.

Last season, Glasco's 60-yard kickoff return against Prosper Rock Hill with no time left in the first half kickstarted a lights-out second half. On Friday night, Aledo's touchdown with eight seconds remaining in the first half figured to give them a 23-16 lead heading into the locker room. Then, they made the mistake of squib kicking to Glasco, who returned it 83 yards to the house.

"I'm only on one special teams (unit), so I've got to make the most of it," Glasco said.

Glasco later took an end-around handoff for a 54-yard touchdown.

Glasco gained over 600 scrimmage yards as a sophomore and will be a key cog in Guyer's offense. He projects to the slot in college with a 5-foot-9-inch frame, and his verified 10.3 100m dash speed shows up on the field. 

"He's talented. He's tough. He's strong," Heim said. "He may not be 6-foot-4, but he sure is fun to watch."

Glasco said after the game that Kansas State is his current top school and he's working on scheduling a visit to Manhattan. 

Defensive MVP – 2027 DT Khyren Haywood

Someone forgot to tell Khyren Haywood defenders aren't supposed to put points on the board. 

With the score knotted at 30 in the fourth quarter, Haywood – along with Zane Rowe and Matt Smejkal – sacked Aledo quarterback Gavin Beard for a seven-yard loss in the end zone in front of their student section, giving the Wildcats their first lead since 3-0 in the first quarter. Unfortunately for Beard, that wasn't the last he'd see of Haywood. With less than a minute remaining in the game and Guyer clinging to a 35-30 lead, Beard drove Aledo to the 37-yard line only to take a 16-yard sack from Haywood, securing the win.

Haywood is part of an elite front four with Wisconsin defensive tackle commit Xavier Ukponu and fellow sophomore Rowe, an Oklahoma pledge. Haywood also shouted out senior Matt Desantes as an underrated yet foundational piece to the rotation.

The sophomore defensive tackle lists Oregon, Texas A&M, Texas, Ole Miss and Arkansas as his top schools. He's visiting Texas A&M for the season opener against Notre Dame and is trying to lock in a date for an Oregon visit.

Even with all the college attention, Heim said Haywood is keeping the main thing the main thing.

"He wants to be great," Heim said. "Sometimes when guys get recruited really early, you start to wonder, 'Do you love the game? Or do you love to be recruited?' There's no doubt in my mind, that young man loves the game."
