When a team loses impact players like DE Colin Simmons and DT Alex January, it often faces a period of adjustment.
For Duncanville, however, this transition has come with the emergence of a new leader on the defensive line—2026 DE KJ Ford (6'3, 225).
With over 20 scholarship offers already in hand, Ford is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after recruits in the state and is viewed as one of the team's defensive leaders.
"Everybody needs to come together and be just one team," Ford emphasized. "I have been working on my pass rush and just knowing the game better—my football IQ."
Ford had a breakout year in 2023, helping to lead the Panthers to a 6A Division I state title win.
"It was a learning process, learning things from the other players to get better as yourself," he said. "Last year was a good year; just getting out there and getting to display my talents."
Ford is eyeing offers from prestigious programs such as Oregon, Ohio State, and Georgia. However, his recruitment has already been marked by significant milestones and substantial offers, including his first offer from Arizona State and a recent one from Florida.
For Ford, who originally hails from Chicago, an offer from Illinois also holds special significance.
When asked which programs were recruiting him the hardest, Ford listed Texas A&M, Texas, Florida, Miami (FL) and Oklahoma.
His thoughts on the two in-state powerhouses—Texas and Texas A&M—offer a glimpse into what might influence his final decision.
"Texas, I like the family aspect," Ford noted. "Every school is probably going to have a family aspect, so it is really just about my potential development there and seeing the developments of my teammates. That is going to help my decision."
At Texas A&M, Ford has been impressed by the influence of head coach Mike Elko. "He is a defensive-minded coach. He is going to help me get better and put me in the position to succeed on the field and show my talents."
Ford is rated as a DCTF four-star prospect and has been listed on the Five-Star Watchlist.
