Texas A&M sophomore running back Rueben Owens sustained a lower body injury during a team scrimmage on Saturday that is expected to sideline him for the 2024 season. On Texas Football was the first to report, and ESPN's Max Olson and Pete Thamel confirmed the news.

Owens earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors in 2023 after leading all true freshmen in the league with 743 all-purpose yards. Playing under new offensive coordinator Collin Klein's run-heavy scheme, Owens was expected to serve in a running back-by-committee with juniors Amari Daniels and Le'Veon Moss.

While Daniels and Moss each averaged over five yards per carry to Owens's 3.8 last season, the former five-star from El Campo has the highest ceiling of the three. His 10.68 100m time and sure hands made him a dynamic weapon for the Aggies with breakout potential.

With Owens sidelined, Daniels and Moss figure to evenly split a larger load of carries. A name for Texas A&M fans to monitor: EJ Smith, son of NFL's all-time leading rusher Emmitt Smith. The Dallas Jesuit alum is a grad transfer from Stanford.
