Spring Westfield head coach Matt Meekins announced his retirement on Thursday.

Meekins led the Mustangs to a 99-19 record over 9 seasons, winning 10 games or more in eight of the seasons.

He led Westfield to the regional finals in 2016, 2018, and 2023, and to the state semifinals in 2019.

Meekins took over for his brother Corby Meekins, who took a job on staff at the University of Houston.

Assistant coach/defensive coordinator Desmar Black has been named the interim head coach for 2024. Westfield went 11-3 in 2023.
