UT Permian Basin announced the passing of freshman defensive end Luke Miller on Monday. The cause of death is unknown at this time.

The Frisco Lone Star High School product signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the Falcons after being a first-team All-District 5-5A selection last season.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Luke Miller,” UTPB coach Kris McCullough said in a statement released by the university. “We extend our condolences and prayers during this difficult time to his family, friends, and all of the people that Luke was able to touch in his life. Our football family will honor Luke in everything we do moving forward.”

Miller shined for the Rangers last season, registering 38 tackles, including eight tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks, 14 hurries, and one interception. He was a force along Frisco Lone Star’s defensive line during his two seasons on varsity, totaling 8.5 sacks and 30 hurries.

McCullough's heartfelt post on X/Twitter echoes the community's shared grief. “Words are hard to find today. I love you, Luke,” he wrote. I send my deepest condolences to your family, friends, and everyone you were able to touch in your life. Please pray for his family and our student-athletes.”

UTPB noted that the University Mental Health and Wellness Center is open, and counselors are available 24 hours a day for emergencies by calling the 24-hour UTPB Crisis Line at (432) 552-4600. TimelyCare, a free virtual online wellness partner, is also available for students and staff at TimelyCare.com/UTPB.
