COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Big recruiting news and relevant prospect notes from Friday's action at the 2024 Texas 7-on-7 State Tournament.

Recruiting News

  • 7-on-7 has been kind to Daingerfield 2026 WR/CB Mason Williams. Earlier this year he was in Florida for an event and caught his first offer soon after from the Hurricanes as a DB. UTSA was his second offer and the Roadrunners offered him on offense. Williams is hearing a lot currently from Texas A&M and Oklahoma and has an interest in programs like Texas, Oregon, Michigan and LSU. (Greg Powers)
  • Gunter 2025 S Colin Peacock is 100 percent locked in with his Baylor commitment following an official visit where he got the chance to sit down and learn from BU head coach Dave Aranda, who Peacock dubbed a “defensive genius.” Peacock feels like the recruiting class is moving in a strong direction and the recruits are forming tight bonds. • Lexington 2026 QB Kase Evans is a rising junior whose already started 25 varsity games and compiled over 5,600 yards and 50 touchdowns. His experience was evident on Friday as Evans displayed some of the best footwork of any prospect and throws with zip. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound signal-caller doesn’t have any offers yet, but Houston and Baylor are showing interest. Evans went to Baylor’s camp last week and the coaches said they’d follow him this season. Texas Tech and Texas State also schools to monitor. (Carter Yates)
  • Lorena 2025 DE/TE Seth Taverner is like a man walking amongst boys at the state tournament. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound athlete is a two-time First Team All-District defensive end. He’ll start at tight end and defensive end senior year for Lorena. UTEP recently offered as an athlete, and TE coach Jajuan Dulaney stayed through the rain for an hour watching him practice. Taverner also holds offers from Air Force and hometown Arkansas State. He went to Baylor’s camp last week and knows a lot of the coaches there because campus is 15 minutes away. (Yates)
  • Frisco Wakeland 2025 LB Tristan Lawyer flew under the radar for far too long, but the secret’s out on the 6-foot-4, 225-pound linebacker. Tulsa is his latest offer and Lawyer says their coaching staff shows the most care he’s seen. He picked up Baylor and Texas State offers after the camp circuit. Lawyer says playing in Dave Aranda’s system is a huge draw, while Texas State LB coach Bradley Dale Peveto made a strong impression. Lawyer doesn’t plan to set a commitment date right now and will choose his school when it feels right. (Yates)
  • Cypress Falls 2025 LB Kaleb Burns commits on July 1 and will decide between Baylor, SMU and Texas Tech. He rocked Baylor garb to sign in and said head coach Dave Aranda and LB coach Jamar Chaney always keep it real. He cites Aranda’s track record sending linebackers to the league as a pull. Burns calls SMU defensive coordinator Scott Symons one of the best coordinators you could play for, and he’s trained with linebacker Alexander Kilgore since 10th grade. For Texas Tech, he says he has a great relationship with the entire staff and feels they can develop him. He’s also called Lubbock one of the best visits he’s been on. (Yates)

Prospect Notes and Evaluations

  • Jacksboro ATH Cannon Valenzuela has been the talk of the tournament and now’s he is a DCTF three-star. The Colorado State commit is one of the most physically imposing and athletic prospects here. He’s a four-sport athlete as well, which makes him extremely intriguing. Kansas State has continued to keep the pressure on him despite his CSU pledge. (Powers)
