The youngest offensive coordinator in college football in 2024 will reside in the Permian Basin. Sources indicate UTPB head coach Kris McCullough will promote Kenny Hrncir to co-offensive coordinator one season after Hrncir led the Falcons to unprecedented success as the team’s quarterback.

Hrncir will continue to coach quarterbacks this season. Blake Crandall was promoted to serve alongside Hrncir as co-offensive coordinator and will continue to coach wide receivers.

At 23 years old, Kenny Hrncir is not only the youngest offensive coordinator in college football in 2024 but may also be the second-youngest person ever to hold this position in college football history. The youngest known offensive coordinator is current UTEP head coach Scotty Walden, who was 22 years old when he was named offensive coordinator at Sul Ross State.

Hrncir led UTPB to the program’s first outright Lone Star Conference championship last season, completing 55 percent of his pass attempts for 2,878 yards with 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He added 682 yards and eight touchdowns on 149 rush attempts in 2023.

The Needville High School product earned multiple honors following the final year of his playing career, including LSC Offensive Player of the Year, All-Texas Non-FBS Offensive Player of the Year, and Don Hansen DII All-American honors.

The first-year coach is following in the footsteps of McCullough, one of the top young coaches in college football. During his career, McCullough has earned a spot on Dave Campbell’s 40-under-40, 247Sports 30-under-30, and AFCA’s 35-under-35 list. Hrncir’s familiarity with the playbook is unmatched after spending four years at quarterback in McCullough’s system, including three years at East Central.

Despite his extensive experience under McCullough's guidance, Hrncir is now facing new challenges. He's transitioning from leading the offense on the field to doing so from the sidelines or press box. Moreover, he's shouldering the weight of high expectations, with the Falcons being touted as one of the favorites, alongside Central Washington and Angelo State, to clinch the LSC title this year.
