In a move that rocks the Texas high school six-man football landscape, Benjamin star Grayson Rigdon is leaving the school and will play elsewhere for his senior season in 2024, sources confirmed to Dave Campbell's Texas Football.

It is currently unknown where Rigdon will play in the fall, but sources confirm that it will not be with the Mustangs program he led to back-to-back state championships in 2022 and 2023.

Rigdon is a three-time reigning Six-Man Player of the Year, a three-time state champion at Strawn and Benjamin, and a four-time state championship game MVP, winning both offensive and defensive honors during his freshman year victory with Strawn. He has never lost a football game through his first three years of high school.

Rigdon holds the record for most career touchdowns in state championship games with 17 after finding the end zone seven times in an 82-34 win over Oglesby last season. He captured his third offensive Most Valuable Player award and was a finalist for Mr. Texas Football Player of the Year.

The Air Force commit captured the state as a freshman while leading Strawn to a 73-28 victory over Motley County. Rigdon continued to dominate Class 1A during his sophomore season, which ended with Benjamin’s 68-20 win over Loraine. 

The Rigdon family has won ten state championship medals in the past five seasons. Matthew Rigdon was the six-man Player of the Year in 2019 after leading Richland Springs to the Class 1A DII title. Griffin Rigdon was a senior and a key to Strawn’s state championship in 2021. The patriarch of the family, Jamie, owns the remaining five state title medals as an assistant coach at Richland Springs, Strawn, and Benjamin.
