Tulia ISD on Thursday named Richardson Berkner co-offensive coordinator Fred Jordan as the next head coach of the Hornets.

He'll replace Oscar Murga, who was reassigned earlier this offseason after leading Tulia’s athletic program for the past two seasons. Tulia ISD named heads boys basketball coach Joshua Johnson the Hornets new athletic director in April.

Jordan, a native of Lubbock with extensive ties to the area, will look to stabilize Tulia’s football program that hasn’t had a coach remain more than two seasons since Eric Wilson’s tenure from 1998-2009.

“I want to come to Tulia and make it my home, bring some stability and put my stamp on the program," he said. "I feel like if you can grind and build something this can be a great place."

Jordan is a graduate of Lubbock Estacado and played college football at Cisco Junior College and West Texas A&M before beginning his coaching career as a volunteer assistant under Marcus Shavers at Estacado. In 2018, Jordan went to McKinney where he spent three seasons as the RB coach under Shavers. He returned to Lubbock in 2021 where he joined the staff at Lubbock Monterey as the RB coach and associate head coach. Jordan returned to the DFW area in 2023 joining Trey Bryant’s staff at Richardson Berkner where he was the co-offensive coordinator for the Rams.

“Tulia has a lot of gems and hidden talent and I feel like the guys I’ve learned from in the past helps give me the tools to go in and really take things to another level,” he said. “I want to meet with the kids and parents and start to establish relationships. I want to see where we are at. It’s late so we’ve got to get going and start building this thing."

Jordan will start on Monday.
