Uvalde CISD Unveils Renovated Weight Room

The project was part of the “Iron Sharpens Iron” initiative created by the Texas High School Coaches Association and funded by a donation from Fin Ewing of Dallas, TX

Uvalde, Texas - April 15, 2024 - Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) proudly unveiled its newly renovated weight room, made possible through a collaborative effort involving the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA), Uvalde CISD athletic administration, and generous funding from philanthropist Fin Ewing. The ceremony celebrated the culmination of the Iron Sharpens Iron initiative, a transformative project aimed at providing cutting-edge athletic facilities for students across Texas.

The ceremony, held at Uvalde High School on April 15, 2024, featured distinguished guests, including executives from the Texas High School Coaches Association, Uvalde CISD athletic administration, project sponsors, and Fin Ewing, whose visionary support made the project a reality.

The Iron Sharpens Iron initiative, spearheaded by the Texas High School Coaches Association, is dedicated to enhancing athletic programs by providing high-quality weight rooms designed to serve all students and athletes. The project at Uvalde CISD exemplifies the impact of public-private partnerships in advancing educational opportunities for young athletes.

"We are immensely grateful to Fin Ewing for his incredible generosity in making this state-of-the-art weight room a reality for Uvalde High School student-athletes," said THSCA Executive Director Joe Martin. "The Iron Sharpens Iron project is one way in which our Education Foundation furthers our mission of ‘Helping Coaches Help Kids,’ and we are thrilled that the coaches and student-athletes will benefit from the vision of our partners."

The renovation of the weight room was made possible by the generous contributions and expertise of several building partners:

MF Athletics/Perform Better (Bumpers and Plates) - Steve Ward

Mondo Sports Flooring - Jon Issacs

Power Lift Weight Equipment - JR Conrad and Jeff Conner

RFS Sport Surfaces and Lockers (Flooring Demo and Installation) - David Smith and Jenna Addison

TRX - Tim Bourke

Texas Power Bars - Buddy Capps and Mitch Stacey

Waterboy Graphics - Ty Gipson and Julie Powell

These partners contributed their expertise and resources to create a state-of-the-art facility that will benefit Uvalde CISD students for years to come.

"I am proud to support the Iron Sharpens Iron initiative and provide students with top-tier athletic facilities," said Fin Ewing, whose commitment to youth sports development helped fund the renovation. "I believe in the power of education and athletics to shape the future leaders of our communities and public schools, and it is my hope that this weight room will serve as a catalyst for excellence and teamwork among Uvalde CISD students for generations to come."
