Victoria East head coach Charlie Reeve has been named the next athletic director and head football coach at Corpus Christi Calallen, Calallen ISD announced on Monday night.
Reeve replaces Steve Campbell, who announced his retirement in February shortly after UIL Realignment. Calallen ISD utilized the services of the “We Will Win” search firm to help make this decision.
Reeve, a native of Victoria and graduate of Victoria High School, took over at Victoria East in January and led the Titans to an 8-4 record and an area round playoff appearance in his lone season at the helm in his hometown.
He's a 19-year coaching veteran with prior stops at New Caney, Cuero, Odessa Permian, Bay City and Katy Seven Lakes.
Reeve also has plenty of college experience as he served as an assistant at Texas State, UTSA and Houston Baptist (now Houston Christian). He was an analyst on staff at Houston for a year and he served as a grad assistant on staff at Rice.
Reeve's brother is El Campo head coach Travis Reeve and his father Mark Reeve is a well-known coach in his own right with 183 wins to his credit in 18 seasons of head coaching at the high school level.
The new head coach at Calallen was also a pretty good player back in his day as he played quarterback at Pearl River (Miss.) Community College from 2000-01, leading the nation in passing and total offense, en route to earning NJCAA first-team all-America and Region XIII Player of the Year honors as a sophomore.
Reeve has the challenge of trying to restore Calallen to the elite programs in South Texas after the Wildcats stumbled in 2023 falling in the bi-district round of the playoffs to Beeville Jones.
