Spring football begins in earnest across the country following Spring Break. The state of Texas is primed for another memorable year at the FBS level in 2024 with the Longhorns joining the SEC and new coaching staffs at Texas A&M, Houston and UTEP. UTSA begins a new chapter without long-time quarterback Frank Harris as rival Texas State appears set for a Sun Belt title run. The Lone Star State is home to 13 FBS programs.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football will rank the 10 best players at each position continuing with OFFENSIVE LINE.
Previous rankings: QB | RB | WR | TE | EDGE | DT | LB
1. OT KELVIN BANKS, TEXAS
The big man from Humble Summer Creek is a future top 10 draft pick in 2025. He’s started every game in his college career (27) at left tackle for the Longhorns. He was a second-team All-Big 12 selection as a sophomore and a first-team member as a junior in 2023. He was the best offensive lineman in Texas entering 2023 and that remains true in 2024.
2. OT TREY ZUHN III, TEXAS A&M
The Aggie offensive line struggled in what proved to be Jimbo Fisher’s last season in College Station, but the play by Zuhn at left tackle was a bright spot in a dark campaign. The Colorado native was the highest-graded regular on Texas A&M’s offensive line after starting in all 12 regular season games. He also started 11 times at tackle as a freshman. Mike Elko and OC Collin Klein have a lot of work to do in the trenches for the Aggies, but the left tackle spot is solidified.
3. C/G JUSTIN OSBORNE, SMU
A Swiss-Army knife offensive lineman whose played at guard and tackle during his four seasons starting for the Mustangs up front moved to center in the spring and that could be his position in the NFL with a good showing. Osborne was an All-Texas selection in 2023 and 2022. Last year, he started 11 times and was on the Outland Trophy Watch list and was a first-team All-AAC selection.
4. OT CAMPBELL BARRINGTON, BAYLOR
Barrington arrived at Baylor from BYU and immediately made an impact up front for the Bears, even as they struggled. Barrington started all 12 games, including starts at right tackle and right guard. He was graded as the 12th-best tackle in the Big 12 by PFF while registering a 77.9 pass-block grade. He’s a versatile piece that new Baylor OC Jake Spavital could deploy at tackle or guard. Our guess is that Barrington becomes the staple at right tackle.
5. G DAVION CARTER, TEXAS TECH
The Memphis transfer arrives in Lubbock with one year of eligibility remaining. He’ll slide into a starting spot at left or right guard. Carter started all 12 games last year for the Tigers and his 81.5 overall blocking grade ranked seventh in the FBS among all guards and second in the AAC. He started 23 times at Memphis.
6. G DJ Campbell, TEXAS
The former five-star from Arlington broke into the starting lineup last year at right guard for the Horns and never relinquished the role. He’s a big, nasty blocker with heavy hands and a powerful frame.
7. G LOGAN PARR, SMU
The Texas transfer became one of the best interior linemen in the G5 ranks last year for an SMU team that bullied its way to a conference title for the first time since the 1980s. In 723 snaps, Parr graded out as a 79.5 overall with a pass-block grade of 84.6. The Ponies were 0-3 against P5 opponents last year, however, so they need Osborne, Parr and the rest of the offensive line to lead the squad.
8. OT DAKOTA WHITE, HOUSTON
A revamped offensive line at Houston starts with White, a La Tech transfer who arrives in Third Ward with 30 career starts, including 26 at left tackle. He is the presumed starter at either left or right tackle for the Cougars in Year 1 under Willie Fritz. White only allowed two sacks in 399 opportunities in 2023 and had a 97.2 pass blocking efficiency, per PFF.
9. NASH JONES, TEXAS STATE
Nash began his college career at Lamar before transferring to UIW and flourishing in 2022 as a sophomore for a Cardinals team that reached the FCS semifinals. He followed head coach G.J. Kinne to San Marcos and was immediately pegged as the left tackle. He started six times at left tackle for the Bobcats last year but injuries kept him off the field between Sept. 9 and Nov. 11.
10. BLESS HARRIS, TCU
Considered one of the top transfer offensive tackles in the country, Harris is expected to start at left tackle for the Horned Frogs in 2024. He started the season opener at Florida State in 2022 before being sidelined for the year by injury. He made five starts and played in 11 games for the Seminoles in 2023.
