The TCU Horned Frogs received unwanted news ahead of spring practice, which is set to start on March 23, with the news that projected starting quarterback Josh Hoover will miss spring practice due to an undisclosed injury. The news was first reported by Steven Johnson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. A school spokesman told the Star-Telegram that Hoover is expected to be fully cleared for summer workouts.
The news is a blow for a quarterback room already facing depth concerns. Hoover started the final six games of his redshirt freshman season for TCU last year, completing 62 percent of his passes for 2,206 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 298 attempts.
The Rockwall-Heath product entered spring as the projected starting quarterback after TCU failed to land an instant starter in the portal. Vanderbilt transfer Ken Seals is expected to receive the majority of reps this spring. Seals started 22 games during his last three seasons with the Commodores, where he completed 60.5 percent of his pass attempts for 4,292 yards with 28 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.
Hoover’s injury could force the Horned Frogs to search for another quarterback to add depth ahead of the 2024 season when the transfer portal opens following spring practice from April 15 to April 30.
