Tomball ISD on Friday morning named Brazoswood head coach Joe Dale Cary as the next head football coach at Tomball Memorial High School.
Cary replaces Sam Parker, who stepped down in early February to take over as the head coach at Canyon Lake High School.
“The success that Tomball ISD has experienced in all sports really attracted me when the job opened up and obviously both football programs have been very successful," he said. "Tomball High’s been great under Coach Handal and before that Coach Flanigan and Coach Parker’s done an outstanding job at Tomball Memorial. I’m excited to get work for Coach Flanigan as he’s done a great job since moving into the athletic director role."
Cary has spent the past two seasons at Brazoswood where in 2022 he led the Buccaneers to a 7-4 record, their first playoff appearance and winning season in 10 years. He sports a career record of 59-51 with stops as a head coach at Crandall and Hondo as well.
In addition to his head coaching experience, Cary has spent time as an assistant coach at Port Neches-Groves, Aledo, San Antonio Reagan and Killeen Harker Heights.
“Tomball is a growing community that had lots of appeal and there’s quality administration at the campus level and at the district level," he said. "Brazoswood is an amazing place, the athletic director Coach Zeller and the superintendent Danny Massey are incredible. The kids at Brazoswood worked their tails off for us and I love them to death, I hope we left things better than we found it."
