Denver Harris, a former five-star cornerback in the class of 2022 from Galena Park North Shore, has committed to UTSA. Javi Cardenas with BirdsUp.com was the first to report.
Harris won three state championships in four years at North Shore, earning District 21-6A Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and Under Armour All-American designation as a senior. He's yet to find a permanent home for his highly anticipated college career, however, due to multiple suspensions.
As a freshman at Texas A&M in 2022, he was suspended for violating curfew ahead of the Miami game in Week Three and again after a locker room altercation during the South Carolina game. Harris opted to transfer to LSU for his sophomore season, but missed the season opener due to his role in a fall camp fight. He started three games for the Tigers in 2023, totaling seven tackles and two pass breakups, but was absent from the team in the final five games of the season for undisclosed personal reasons.
In between the disciplinary issues, Harris has shown flashes of five-star ability. He fills a position of need for UTSA after the Roadrunners lost First Team All-AAC cornerback Kam Alexander and redshirt senior Dywan Griffin to the transfer portal.
This is a developing story and more details will be added as they emerge.
