Texas State is close to adding former Arkansas head coach and legendary high school coach Chad Morris to its football staff as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator, according to multiple sources. 

Morris replaces Craig Stutzmann, who left San Marcos to become the offensive coordinator at San Jose State under new head coach Ken Niumatalolo. Morris currently serves as special assistant to the head coach at Clemson under Dabo Swinney after a brief stint at South Florida in 2022. Most recently as a head coach, Morris led the Allen Eagle program in 2021. He rose to prominence in the late 2000s as head coach of Lake Travis High School guiding the Cavaliers to back-to-back unbeaten state championship seasons with quarterback Garrett Gilbertg. He went on to coach Texas State head coach GJ Kinne at Tulsa as offensive coordinator in 2010 before joining Swinney's staff the first time at Clemson from 2011 to 2014 as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator where he coached the offense deaturing the likes of Tajh Boyd, Deandre Hopkins, Andre Ellington, Martavis Bryant and Sammy Watkins. He was also heavily involved in the recruitment of future Heisman winner Deshaun Watson.

Kinne’s first collegiate coaching position was as a grad assistant under Morris after the latter took over at SMU.
