Texas State added a massive name to its quarterback room.

Former Arizona and Washington State quarterback Jayden de Laura committed to Texas State Monday afternoon. 247Sports was first to report. De Laura arrives in San Marcos following two seasons as Arizona’s starting quarterback where he threw for over 3,600 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2022. Before that, he played for Washington State in 2021 and 2020.

Despite this being de Laura’s second transfer, the rising senior will be eligible to play this season following a lawsuit against the NCAA in late 2023 that cleared the way for multi-time transfers to be immediately eligible for competition.

Texas State has a spot in the quarterback room for another veteran presence following the transfer of Malik Hornsby. TJ Finley started last season but the other two at the position, before de Laura’s commitment, were freshman PJ Hatter and incoming 2024 freshman Brad Jackson. Finley and de Laura will presumably battle it out during spring camp as Finley and Hornsby did last summer.

In September 2023, a judge in Hawaii rejected a financial settlement between de Laura, Wisconsin safety Kamo’I Latu and a woman who claims the two assaulted her in 2018. All three were juveniles during the alleged incident. The judge determined that the settlement was “too low” and that it wasn’t reached in good faith. He was since set to have a mediation hearing in January 2024.
