UTSA's defense is looking for a quick rebuild after AAC Defensive Player of the year Trey Moore's transfer and three-time all-conference safety Rashad Wisdom's graduation. The Roadrunners made a bet on Alabama transfer linebacker Ian Jackson.
Jackson, a former four-star recruit in the class of 2021, is unproven with only three game appearances in three years. But the 6-foot-1-inch, 235-pound linebacker has the athleticism to excel as an off-ball linebacker for UTSA.
It's an excellent pickup for a UTSA linebacker room that's adjusting to life without Moore. Jackson should pair well with Donyai Taylor as hybrid backers who can cover in space and swarm in the run game while second-leading tackler Jamal Ligon mans the inside. Add in the experience of Martavius French and Jimmori Robinson, and 2024 has a chance to be UTSA's deepest linebacking corps.
Jackson will have one season of eligibility.
