Sunnyvale athletic director/head football coach John Settle announced to his team this morning that he’d be retiring from his position leading the Raiders. Settle who spent 21-seasons as a head coach has spent the last thirteen seasons leading the Sunnyvale program. He has a career record of 158-77 overall, he led Brownsboro from 2003-2010 before heading the DFW area. Settle has been in coaching for 34-years.
“The past couple of years I’ve been kind of looking for what’s next in my life and I’ve found a position outside of education that fits and it’s a good time for me and my family to move on and do something else,” said Settle.
Settle in 2006 led Brownsboro to a regional final appearance and in his tenure at Sunnyvale posted four double digit win seasons, including a 12-2 mark in 2015 and a 12-1 mark in 2019.
Settle’s retirement is effective at the end of February, although nothing is guaranteed, the smart money with Sunnyvale’s success will be an internal hire. “I’ve been here thirteen years, it’s a long time in this business, we’ve fallen in love with this community, it’s been a great place to raise my family. It’s bittersweet because they’ve been so good to us,” said Settle.
