Starting quarterback Quinn Ewers announced that he’ll return to Texas for the 2024 season.
The former five-star from Southlake Carroll started 12 of the Longhorns’ 14 games as they marched to a Big 12 championship – the first since 2009 – and into the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs. He’ll be a junior next season.
Ewers threw for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2023. He threw for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns in 10 games in 2022. His best performance of his two-year career as a starter for Texas was against Oklahoma State in the Big 12 championship game when he threw for 452 yards and four touchdowns in a blowout win. Ewers passed for 318 yards and a touchdown in the loss to Washington in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
Ewers’ return is a boost for Texas’ maiden voyage into the SEC. Texas’ offense must revamp itself at the skill positions with wide receiver Xavier Worthy, tight end JT Sanders, and running back Jonathon Brooks declaring early for the NFL draft. Texas does return most of its offensive line and a solid core on defense. Ewers is arguably the best returning quarterback in the SEC heading into 2024.
