Sources have confirmed to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football that Chris Ross will be the offensive coordinator at Stephen F. Austin. Ross spent the last four seasons as head football coach at Lovejoy, leading the Leopards to a 45-9 overall record.

Ross holds a 190-82 record as a head coach with stops at Wichita Falls, Cedar Park, Leander, Prosper, and Red Oak before joining Lovejoy in 2020. This will be the second stint in the collegiate coaching ranks for Ross, who spent three seasons as special assistant to head coach Brian Harsin at Boise State.

The Quanah native replaces Matt Storm, who left the Lumberjacks after spending 11 seasons as offensive coordinator for head coach Colby Carthel, including six years at Texas A&M-Commerce. The duo led the Lions to the 2017 NCAA Division II national title and led SFA to the FCS playoffs in 2021.

Ross inherits a talented roster that signed another top FCS recruiting class during the early signing period, led by Gunter wide receiver Cannon Lemberg and Gilmer wide receiver and return specialist Ta’Erik Tate.

Ross is set to begin his 30th season on the sidelines and has a reputation for success at every stop. He has led his high school programs to 14 playoff appearances and helped lead Boise State to a Mountain West Conference title and two appearances in bowl games.
