Three-Star WR Jacob Emmers Closing in on a Decision?
Anna 2024 WR Jacob Emmers (5'11, 180) had a remarkable finish to his high school career. In addition to winning the 4A Division I state championship, he hauled in a game-winning, last-second TD catch in a 42-38 win over Frisco Panther Creek in the regional finals.
"I had to go through a lot of adversity; I got hurt," Emmers said. "I missed the first four games of the season. That was hard for me to watch my teammates; even though they were winning, it was still hard."
"After I came back, I just had to become a leader for my team and be able to win, so we could have a chance to win state this year."
On the recruiting front, Emmers would like to sign in the Early Signing Period, and Tulsa is the program that is showing him the strongest interest down the stretch. Tulsa WR Coach Ryan Switzer is running point in his recruitment.
"Tulsa is really in the mix a lot," Emmers said. "He (Switzer) is always staying in contact with me and is always checking up on me and my family."
Texas State, Utah State and Cal are also showing interest.
"I'll probably sign early," Emmers said.
Prospect to Watch: We missed Anna 2024 LB CJ Miller (6'0, 235) in our recruiting preview, which was an egregious omission. He's a physical linebacker with a nose for the football. STATS/PERFORMANCE. On the recruiting front, Miller holds an offer from Lamar and has been catching interest from McNees State and ULM. He has a wrestling background and sports a 3.8 GPA.
SMU Commits in Action: The Anna defense stifled the Tyler Chapel Hill offense, but we still watched SMU 2025 commits ATH Demetrius Brisbon (6'0, 170) and RB Rickey Stewart (5'10, 180) closely. Brisbon plays quarterback, but he may be suited to play wide receiver at the next level. He does have some experience playing defensive back, as well. He is shifty and rangy and looked best on a punt return, where he showcased his ability to dodge tackles in the open field. Stewart left the game early with an injury and Chapel Hill could not establish the run game because it played from behind.
Webb's Game-Changing Plays
2025 Gilmer DB Brendan Webb (5'11, 170) had two huge defensive plays to help lead Gilmer to a 28-26 win over Bellville in the 4A Division II game to secure Defensive MVP honors. Oh yeah, he also caught a touchdown pass.
"It feels great, but I couldn't do it without my teammates," Webb said. "My defensive line caused pressure for me to get that pick and I couldn't have gotten that forced fumble if they didn't wrap him up."
"A lot of people did not expect us to be here, but our motto is 'Continuous Improvement,' and we have improved since week one. We have gotten so much better."
Webb, who considers himself an 'athlete' and patterns his game after Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs, secured his first offer from UTSA, and he knows all about UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor, who has his name on Gilmer's stadium.
Traylor and his staff at UTSA were on hand to watch Webb's big performance.
"It just gave me a boost of confidence to know that I worked so hard for this," Webb said. "He (Traylor) is a great coach. I was little when he was here and I used to come up and watch the practices."
Offensive MVP: Gilmer 2024 RB Will Henderson (5’10, 170) earned Offensive MVP honors in the 4A DII State Championship Friday afternoon at AT&T Stadium. In doing so, Henderson showcased several key abilities that make him a legit prospect at the running back position: speed and toughness. In the first half, he broke through the Bellville front seven, taking the ball on a 65-yard house call. Showing off his 10.28 verified speed in the process. Closing out the game, Henderson put his nose down as he ran over several Bellville defenders to earn the game-sealing first down. He finished the day with 227 yards off of 27 rush attempts and a score. Adding seven receptions for 53 yards as well.
2025 DT is a Force: Bellville 2025 DL DJ Sanders is the epitome of a dancing bear with an impressive build while also showing off natural athleticism. Sanders (6’3, 290) finished the afternoon with 10 total tackles in a losing effort, including a huge TFL in the later stages of the game that kept his team in the fight. When he chooses to turn it on, Sanders flashes his potential to be a dominant force.
LSU Commit Secures Defensive MVP After Big Game
Aledo 2024 LB Davhon Keys (6'0, 205) racked up 12 tackles and two TFLs to earn Defensive MVP honors following Aledo's 51-8 win over Smithson Valley in the 5A Division I state championship game.
"I'm extremely blessed and fortunate, and I couldn't have done it without God," Keys said. "The Lord has blessed me and put me in a great position, and secondly, I couldn't have done it without these great teammates that I am surrounded with. It all starts with the front four and they do a great job here with the lineman and that allows me to make plays."
Keys has played in four consecutive state title games inside of AT&T Stadium.
"It's definitely my best game," Keys confirmed. "I have progressed every year, getting older and getting more mature. I have been able to make better plays, make faster plays, make bigger plays, and it is just a natural progression, and I have been getting better as I go."
Keys is set to sign with LSU and he will be an early enrollee. The battle-tested TXHSFB four-star enters the college game ready to play on day one.
"I am extremely excited," Keys said with a smile. I am ready to go. I am ready to go win the natty."
Future TCU QB Shines (Again): Aledo 2024 QB Hauss Hejny: Titletown claimed its second state championship behind the arm of Hauss Hejny (5’11, 185) on Friday night with 202 yards through the air and two scores. Hejny showed off his arm strength finding his targets on several big chunk plays to keep momentum in his Bearcats favor. He has the ability to run the ball with effectiveness and does so with a confident style of running. After 13 attempts he finished with 77 yards and one score on the ground. Hejny finishes his high school career on a high note with TCU up next in the near future.
